The sky is falling, The sky is falling!!

I'm at a loss for words here...The people of the Triad, while I love it here, have kind of lost their minds. We're supposed to be getting snow and ice here today, so last night there were about a dozen school cancellations already at about 9pm. Mind you, the snow and ice were still about 18 hours off. So, I'm sitting here at 11am while the kids are running around the house playing and enjoying their "Snow Day" and the weather outside is just now starting to turn.

Should I start running down the street now and scream like Chicken Little did? Seems as though the entire city and surrounding areas think that the world is coming to end when it starts to flurry or even if we have a chance of flurries for that matter. I just think this is so funny, coming from up north where they just had a few inches fall the other night and are expecting another 5-8 inches again today. We'll see how much we actually get today and if it's even anything worry about.

This is just one of those things where my mindset differs from those who live around me. While I sit here and watch it flurry outside, I'm sure the grocery stores are pack with people stocking up for "hibernation" while the world crashes down around them. LOL! I say all this fun and secretly LOVE the days where we don't have to leave the house because the town has slowed to a crawl even though there is no accumulation to be seen!

Our big move...A life changing experience

So, most of you might know that we took a huge leap last year and moved our family from Cincinnati, Ohio (where we grew up and where just about ALL of our family lives) to the Greensboro/ Winston Salem North Carolina area.

At first I was very hesitant and almost against the move. I thought that leaving my family and group of friends would be the end of me and that the kids would have hard time adjusting. Our first trip down to the area gave me hope and promise that everything would work out.

Here we are 6 months later and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Not to say that we don't miss our family and friends back in Cincinnati, but it has been one of the best decisions of our lives. We've learned not to depend on the comfort of what we "know" and to explore the world in front of us. The kids have adjusted tremendously well and have made some great friends. "J" is thriving in school and is on the brink of learning to read by himself. He has a passion for learning and nightly tells us that he wants a bedtime story, but then quickly says that he wants to tell it with his "voice". "L" has made some great friends as well through the aewsome network of moms that is "TriadMommies", specifically the Kville group. She lights up when she sees Rachel, Mallory and "little" Jack!

As for "B" and I, we also have learned to adjust to the "southern" life, we're trying to take things as they come and slow down our pace of life. It's so great that we had a "built in" set of friends that just so happened to live here. Laura and Martin we're such a sigh of relief when we thought we wouldn't know a soul in the area. "B" has made some great friendships at work and loving his job!

I was by far the most hesitant about the journey we were taking and I am so greatful now for "TriadMommies", I have met some of the greatest ladies a girl could ask for. I tell them all the time how much it means to me that they welcomed me into their close circle of friends! There are a few ladies in particular that have made such a difference in these last 6 months. Bri, Jenilyn, MC and Kaylyn have been so wonderful. I don't know what I'd do without their close companionship. Bri is by far my closest friend here, it's so weird how similar we are and how we can finish eachother's sentences. It's so nice to finally have someone to go shopping with, I can leave "B" at home where he really wants to be! Thanks Bri...you're the best!!

So, all in all moving to North Carolina has been a great decision and we wouldn't change a thing!

Welcome to my new blog!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! It's my New Year's Resolution to chronicle 2011, my life has changed a lot in the past year and it seems that the time is flying by faster and faster as the years tick on. I want to be able to look back and remember the adventures we took as a family, how the kids have changed, and remember where life as a stay-at-home mom and baker has taken me on my journey.

As I mentioned, I am a stay-at-home momma and entrepreneur baker. I have a wonderful husband who gives me just about everything I want and need, and we have two great kids who never cease to amaze me in the things they've learned and do. "J" is 4 (almost 5) and he loves all things sports, video games and quality time with his Daddy! "L" is two (going on 17) and she loves most things girlie...although she can hang with the boys anytime! "J" and "L" are best accomplishment thus far in my life...seeing them grow up and learn new things just makes me so proud.

We have vowed as a family to make 2011 a year of adventures, we're taking one family adventure every week of this year. Something that we normally wouldn't have done and something to look back on and say we really enjoyed life and let it come as it may. So, if you have any suggestions as to what our next family adventure should be, just let me know!

As much as my children and family are my first passion, baking and cake decorating has to be a very close second. I love the creativity it allows me express and it lets me kind of zone out and not think about anything else at that time. I started a small home based business when we lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and have been very pleased by the response when we moved to North Carolina just a short time ago. So, if you live in the Piedmont Triad area of NC and are looking for a custom cake or dessert take a look at www.LittleLucySweets.com.

Stay tuned for the scoop on our first adventure of the year...we had so much fun and was great to be with the family!
